Consumer Behavior - MKT
Write one paragraph comment for each post:
Honestly the back to school shopping caught my eye. I know now these days everything is different because of social media. Many younger girls want to do their hair or get this done and that done before school so they can look different. By all means, I am not against wanting to have a new haircut or new hair color to have a new look. However, now it is just competition and everything is "I have to out do her" or "I have to look better". The one thing I want to talk about is prom these days... No hate but some people now, go CRAZY. Now you see girls buying $1,000 dresses and limos and exotic cars. I feel like everyone is always competing with everyone. No one really does anything simplistic anymore. Social media has definitely played a big part in our culture now and even marketers now how to catch people and target their audiences the right way. I read this one article about how our generation and employers are in a cultural shock. Back then people used to go to their jobs, work and do what they are supposed to do but now no one wants to work and have a hard time following rules and regulations. I can see why this would be true because many young adults now find an easy hustle or an easy way out and no one really wants to work a 9-5 job. Employers are having a hard time with the younger generation now and it is sad to say it is only going to get worse from here with everything going on in the world.
2) For most people, identity can be a tricky and touchy subject. Experiencing puberty and going through countless changes can make it difficult to understand who you really are. I think that is one of the beauties of college. You are able to discover yourself and determine what and who you like. Most people find their identity in college as they are picking their major, friend groups, and potential significant others. One thing that can really help someone discover themselves is what they choose to buy. This can range from clothes to makeup to decorations and even down to the backpack you purchase for class. I would say that most people are what they buy rather than what they post online. It is easy to hide being a computer screen and post certain things that you would never really say in person, but what you choose to spend your money on determines who you are. Self image congruence models suggest that we choose products when their attributes match some aspect of the self (Consumer Behavior: Buying, Having, Being p. 187). We tend to make purchases that we feel relate to some aspect of who we are. Some people tend to buy lighter and brighter products if they have a mirroring personality. Bubbly people do not necessarily have a goth themed bedroom at home.
