Duties. Under the general direction of the Director of Systems Installation, coordinates the installation of computer operating system and applications software and tests software operation. Reads loading and running instructions for system and applications software, such as task scheduling, memory management, computer file system, or controlling computer input and output, and loads tape into tape drive or transfers software to magnetic disk. Initiates tests of systems and applications programs and module interfaces and observes readout on monitor of computer system to detect errors or work stoppage. Enters code changes into computer system to correct errors. Analyzes performance indicators, such as system response time, number of transactions per second, and number of programs being processed at once, to ensure that system is operating efficiently. Changes system software so that system performance will meet objectives. Writes description of steps taken to modify system and procedures required to implement new software. Participates in the supervision and training of less senior systems installations specialists.
Desirable Qualifications. This position requires a university degree in computer science and a minimum of three years of systems installation experience. The successful applicant will have an understanding of, and experience in using, Knowlexs IKnow knowledge database, large area networks, servers, the Internet and Internet tools, and both Windows and Macintosh desktop operating systems. Other qualifications include excellent verbal communications skills in group situations and excellent written communications skills; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment; the ability to provide quality control of services; and a high customer service orientation, demonstrated by an ability to establish and maintain effective client relations under pressure. Good conflict management skills, experience on a project team, and experience in training would be assets.
