Overall aim: To assess whether the impact and collaboration of Informal Savings Groups with Zambian Banking and NonBanking Financial Institutions is the same
Objectives
To investigate existing and potential synergies between ISGs and BFIs in comparison to NBFIs
To assess challenges encountered by BFIs in comparison to NFBIs in forming partnerships with ISGs
To assess how ISGs affect loan portfolio, deposit base and overall business performance of BFIs in comparison to NBFIs
To determine the extent to which ISGs serve as a replacement or supplementary structure of Banking financial Institutions in comparison to NonBanking Financial institutions in Zambia
Methodology
The Study is an exploratory comparative study of the impact of ISGs on Banking and Non
Banking Financial Institutions
A mixed methods approach will be usedemploying a quantitative survey approach that will provide insight from ISGs that have been in existence for a minimum of two years to provide insight on utilization of BFIs and NFBIs or the lack thereof
A systematic review of existing literature from peer
reviewed academic journalsinstitutional reportsdatabases as well as grey literature will be conducted to provide additional insight and learning of potentials and challenges that exist
between ISGs and BFIs and NFBIs from similar contexts
Inperson interviews and surveys will be used to provide both quantitative data and qualitative narratives to compliment survey results targeting representatives of formal banking institutionsnon
banking financial institutionsregulatory agenciesand government officials will be interviewed in a thorough and comprehensive manneris an exploratory comparative study of the impact of ISGs on Banking and NonBanking Financial Institutions.
