- When did you graduate from Cal State LA?
- May 2017
- What is your current job? Company? Are you satisfied with your job/ company or will you look to move on? [Your response will of course be confidential].
- Manager at an Aerospace and Defense Corporation.
- Yes I am satisfied with my current job and is not looking to move elsewhere in near future.
- Where are going in your career? What's your next step? How has your education [MBA if applicable] helped you in your career? What do you remember as noteworthy or remarkable about your education at Cal State LA?
- I am seeing my current job as a long-term career. My next step is to climb up the ladder to become the top management in the company.
- MBA has helped me to see many things from different perspective that I wasn't able to see.
- I find the outcome of my thesis project with Dr. McGuire very remarkable as I was informed that our thesis project is still being used as an example to current MBA students.
- Tell me about a time when you faced a challenging/ difficult issue at work. What happened? What did you do?
- When I first joined the company that I worked at. It was very difficult, I was not familiar with corporation world. I almost got fired 6 months into my career.
- However, I realized that I was slacking off. I wasn't putting my best effort. Then I changed, pushed through and stayed discipline. 10 years later, here I am holding the Manager position for Sales and Business Development.
- Tell me about a time when you got a big "win" at work. What happened? What did you do?
- The big win that has been the most memorable is when I was able to expand the business into territories that the company never landed foot on.
- What I did was to think outside the box and never stop trying. If one method doesn't work, always try to see if there is another that might work.
- In your opinion, what makes an effective leader? Do you have an "mentor" or leader at work who provides a good example? If yes, what is he/she like? What does he/she do?
- An effective leader is someone that can lead by example. Someone that is dependable and discipline. Secure about their job and not afraid to share the member the knowledge they have.
- My Mentor is my dad even though he doesn't work at the same company, he has been very strict and hard on me ever since I was young. I used to complain and get annoyed of him, but now I understand. Without him, I wouldn't be the person I am today and I am extremely thankful for his tough love.
- What advice do you have for me as I progress toward my MBA and career? What will really help me? What might present me with serious problems or challenges
- Work smarter not harder.
- Understand your situation and adapt as they change.
- People. This is the biggest challenge that most leader is facing. Everybody is different so know who your audience is.
