Do you agree with my classmate discussion question below.
Classmate 1 Question The Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 states that a police department cannot hire or not hire anyone based on their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. They also cannot treat other officers or workers based on any of these characteristics as well. In short, the act states you cannot discriminate one another. This later lead to police officers having to take the civil service test in order to become an officer. This so there was bot bias in the department. This act has been able to keep more bad cops out of the force and overall, citizens safer. However, the main problem with this act is that there are still bad or racist cops that end up on the force. As a student learning about this act, it has made me realize that there is not an act or law that will be able to weed out every bad cop or individual from joining the force. It will be nearly impossible to have a perfect police force but, if we ever experience an altercation with a bad cop we need speak up and try our best to get them off the force before someone gets seriously hurt.
Classmate 2 Question How the Act impacted the makeup of police agencies? If so how?
