Research shows that low literacy and illiteracy are major barriers to accessing justice. These low literacy people were categorised into several groups, one of these groups are identified as functionally successful illiterate. Meaning that they are generally successful and functional in society and may even be financially successful, whilst being illiterate. The demographic of this group are immigrants who may speak and communicate fluently but cannot or struggle with reading English. People engaged in professions where literacy is not a requirement (e.g. a successful trades person, who's partner handles the office work of their business). Research conducted by NSW qualitative showed that literacy levels are directly linked to legal capability, and that literacy is a significant barrier to justice, not just mechanically but also emotionally. Marginalised groups experience the effects of illiteracy on a larger scale, and it can also hinder access to pseudo legal issues, such as superannuation and insurance claims. Evidence shows that people with low literacy are more likely to experience a paralysing effect of being overwhelmed, in denial, fearful or embarrassed that they don't seek help until it is too late. Compounding their legal problems.

What is it - Summary.

A website add-on /plug-in that utilises AI enabled Large Language Models (LLM), voice recognition and dictation, Natural Language Processor, and PDF filling capabilities to provide a speech enabled form filling service online.

How will it work

The client/customer will load the form into the program, the program will analyse the form for relevant and pertinent information. Then sequentially read the questions out loud to the client and the client will respond to the questions via speech. This continues in a question response format for the entire form.

The use of a LLM will allow the AI to identify information that is not relevant to the client (for example - Office use information, Form status and identification information) and not read that information out loud. Also the LLM will scan for check point (Tick box) questions and add them to the list.

The voice recognition and NLP record and transcribe the person's answer, filtering and truncating the information, so that it can be structured into grammatically logical sentences. Then the PDF filler input the answer into the form.

Finally the form can be printed and wet signed, or tagged for electronic signature and sent via the online portal to where it would need to be filed.

Benefits

The voice integration will ease the stress and anxiety of persons with low literacy attempting to access or engage with justice. Allowing for enforcing and defending the legal and social rights of persons who may struggle to find or afford legal assistance from other sources. It will also relieve the burden on CLC's, legal aid, other free legal services and potentially literacy services and other community services that assist people with the completions of legal forms.
