Each student will develop a Systems Analysis and Design Portfolio (report) that applies the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to the integration of a machine learning analytic solution into a software technology used by an enterprise, marrying information systems and business analytics. Machine learning solutions are programming logic and statistical models that are deployed as software to solve a business problem or derive business insights. This exercise simulates the experience of a professional IT Systems Analyst or Systems Architect, or similar role within an IT organization.
Use Case
You work in the insurance industry. The Insurance Agency that you work for has a software that generates a quote for an insurance policy upon a customer request. The Insurance Agencies executives want the machine learning team to develop a model that predicts the likelihood that the customer will accept the insurance policy that is quoted. The results will be viewable by the Insurance Agents who develop the quote, but not viewable by the customer who is requesting the quote. This product will help Insurance Agents in an operational way, as Agents will follow up quicker and more frequently with customers whose business they might lose, and might not follow up at all with customers whose business they are highly likely to win.
Draw from your readings on machine learning throughout this course to develop your understanding of the machine learning use case.
Project Outline
Unit 1
- Create a plan to use the systems development life cycle for a business use case.
- Reflect on key concepts in systems analysis and design.
- Experiment with various tools used in systems analysis and design.
it focuses on planning your course project portfolio and developing its initial components. Your Systems Analysis and Design Portfolio will include a Business Requirements Document, User Stories, Diagrams, and Project Evaluation. In this unit, you will create a plan to use the systems development life cycle for a business use case and reflect on key concepts in systems analysis and design.
Directions
- The deliverable is a written document, the first phase of the Business Requirements Document.
- Include the following information:
- an expanded description of the company and business use case,
- the purpose of the document,
- business objectives,
- project objectives, include the existing software and the requested enhancement, and
- challenges that you might anticipate based on your readings from this week (see Constraints, Assumptions, Risks, Dependencies in the BRD Template).
