Ethical Scenarios Assignment

Instructions:

In multiple chapters in Understanding Human Communication, the textbook discusses communication ethics. What people view as ethical or unethical differs based on a variety of factors $($mass media, culture, family upbringing, etc.$).$ It is important to always implement high ethical standards when communicating with others, whether it is a large audience during a public speech or in interpersonal relationships.

In this discussion, you must rank each of the scenarios below based on your own ethical standards. You will rank each scenario with a number from $1($most unethical$)$ to $15($least unethical$)$ without having a duplicate score $($i$.$e$.,$ you can't have the same number for two scenarios$).$

There are no "correct" answers. All these scenarios are unethical in some way.

Ethical Scenarios Reflection Questions

After ranking each of the above scenarios, reflect on the activity and what you have learned. Below are four questions you must answer based on the activity. Each answer should be at least $4$ sentences and show a high degree of depth

How did you base your decisions regarding what was "most unethical" and scenarios that were Teast unethical'? for example, did you base it on cheating, intent of the individual engaging in the unethical act, language use, purpose of the speech, etc.?

Which scenario did you think was the "most" unethical $($ranked $1)?$ Why did you identify that scenario as the most unethical?

Why are ethics important when giving a speech and when being an audience member?

What have you learned from this activity that will help you in your own speeches in this course over the course of the semester? Discuss two strategles you will use to ensure you maintain high ethical standards throughout the course?
