He provides many examples of how people disagree that they dont fall for advertising, which isnt true. Companies spend thousands of dollars to advertise their products since they know people will buy them. Good advertising has a huge impact on people due to desire and emotions. They come up with new ideas and new perspectives to persuade people to buy. I tend to fall for it sometimes as well. How can I trust something thats shown on TV and social media? Is the source reliable and trustworthy? But the advertisements are oddly convincing to me that I end up buying it.
One of the example Hollis discuss is From Catchphrases to Cash. Hollis believes, Advertisers have little control over how audiences receive their message p.525. Which is true. Advertisements have been going on for a very long time. If it wasnt effective, there wouldnt be any advertisements anymore. Especially now, they will have a celebrity work for them and make an advertisement so people will be more interested and buy it just because its their favorite celebrity that the people look up to. However, some may say that people are overestimating and overhyping something like Blooms nutrition drink and Stanley cups. It had a huge impact on the Gen-Z and millennial generation. No matter what the prices are, we still bought it and used it.
In conclusion, at the end of the day, it depends on what the person thinks and feels about advertisements. Everyone has a different point of view about it. It just sucks you in. In that moment you just think that it would be the best thing to invest in or buy it that may or may not be worth it. Thats the power of ads.
