Hey Caveman, Why Do YOU Make Art? There are a lot of reasons why someone makes a work of art. Understanding WHY begins with placing the reasons into one of three categories: Beauty, Communication, and Spiritual Impulse. OBJECTIVE: Put yourself in the place of prehistoric stone-age man or woman and briefly describe why you painted on the walls of your cave. Choose a specific cave painting, megalithic structure or sculpture from the material and align it with one of the following functions of art discussed in the lecture. Beauty Communication Spiritual Impulse Relate one of those reasons to why YOU think prehistoric man carved the figures, built the structures, or painted on the walls of their caves. This shouldn't take more than five to seven sentences but be descriptive and support your thoughts with terms and examples from our reading and resources provided. The first-person approach to this writing may seem awkward when trying to support your point with a specific image or idea from the material, so a generalized adoption of information from the reading or lecture would be appropriate.
