RE: New Computer System

Hi RJ,

Two months ago, we completed and debugged the new computer-based MIS system at a cost of over $250,000. The system, as you well know, is intended to provide us with much more timely and accurate information about sales figures, production and assembly scheduling, vendor order status, and so forth. I have been particularly concerned about the introduction of the new system since it will finally give me direct access to the information I need to ensure better cost-control accounting data.

The new system, however, is not working well. Its effectiveness is being considerably undermined by the basic reality that many of the plant's managers are not using it as intended. I'm sure most of the department heads are maintaining their own, duplicate records and not updating the system as regularly as they are required.

Moreover, they appear to be reluctant to give me the cost-accounting figures I need and they are not fully adhering to the new policies and procedures I have created. I've been sending out email after e-mail documenting what I need from the departments to no avail.

Any - and all - assistance you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.
