As the head of the Senior Year recreation facility, sustainability is a major part of quality management in the organization. By having products and events that meet and exceed our customers' expectations, we build a sustainable foundation that customers can rely on. Our goal is to make decisions that will positively impact our short and long-term environmental influence. By implementing processes that reduce waste and maximize efficiency, management can reduce the environmental trace.
The focus that Six Sigma places on reducing variations in processes can help lead our organization to reduce waste and, ultimately, reduce our environmental impact. The Baldrige Principles have a major focus on sustainability. By using the Baldrige framework, Senior Year can improve our processes to apply a more sustainable approach. Using both Six Sigma and Baldrige Principles will help the organization operate more efficiently. Using data collected when analyzing our processes will also help us integrate both Six Sigma and Baldrige Principles.
One barrier that we could face is cutting costs. To implement processes with environmentally safe considerations, we must first review all of our processes and make the changes necessary. This could prove to be a very costly project initially. Also, resistance to change could become a barrier within the organization. Not only is change hard for any company, but understanding the why behind changes can be the biggest obstacle with employees.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) play a vital role in Senior Year's sustainability approach. By including a diverse group of employees, our business can analyze a broad range of perspectives from several cultures. These various views allow Senior Year to apply sustainable strategies within the organization.
