I basically need someone to review this proposal to my police chief. Is it good?

Hey Chief,

I have a proposition. Hear me out. I've asked my officers for their perspectives, and they agree with me.

You and I both know that physical health is a vital part of law enforcement that is frequently overlooked. It is to my knowledge that you have already established a training spacefor Bowie. You obviously value the well-being of your officers. You may disagree, but I believe our department would benefit greatly from investing in a small gym on-site to assure our officers' well-being and maximize their effectiveness on the job.

After inquiring Shana if the fourth bay in the garage (alarm room) was in fact safe to use, she suggested a better suited area in the locker room, in front of the uniform closet. I completely agree with this room because we currently utilize it and, perhaps more importantly, there is air conditioning. I measured the space and discovered that removing the janky table and the locker storage beside the closet door would give us enough room for everything we need. Most importantly, this eliminates the need for any locker room renovations.

This proposal aims to underlinethe need of having a gym at our station for fitness and well-being, detail the benefits it would provide for our officers, establish specific time to devote to fitness, and offer a way for temporarily supplying the gym with weights.

Benefits of Having a Gym at the Station

1. Physical Health and Fitness: Having a gym on-site would enable us to engage in regular exercise routines, improve our cardiovascular health, build strength, and enhance our overall physical fitness levels. This, in turn, would contribute to greatly reducing the risk of injuries and ensuring that our officers are fit to perform their duties effectively.

2. Mental Well-being: Exercise has been shown to improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and sadness. The demands of police jobs can have a negative impact on our officers' mental health. Having access to a gym at the station would give usa way to relieve stress, clear our minds, and improve our general mental health.

3. Team Building: Exercising together fosters a sense of camaraderie. A gym at the station would promote a sense of unity and teamwork among our officers, ultimately enhancing morale and promoting a positive work environment.

4. Increased Productivity: Regular exercise has been linked to improved focus, concentration, and productivity. By providing our officers with access to a gym on-site, we can help them stay physically and mentally sharp, leading to increased productivity and efficiency in their day-to-day responsibilities.

On-Duty Fitness Time:

I was thinking that granting 2-3 hours of on-duty fitness time per week would eliminate any excuses for not finding time to exercise. This might be achieved by allowing officers to clock in one hour earlier or remaining in for an hour longer for training.

Temporary Solution for Supplying the Gym with Weights:

Recognizing our department's budget limits,I and a few other officers are willing to provide a temporary solution for supplying the gym with weights and other equipment. However, we will need your assistance for larger demands.

Having said that, I recognize that budgets and pricing are likelymostconcerningfor you. There are only a few things we consider are critical to have in that space, which include the following:

Rack:

Cost: $1,625.00 (This includes 2 safety bar arms that will allow us to perform heavy weightlifting without the need of another person present)

Barbell:

https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-ohio-power-bar-e-coat

Cost: $295.00

Barbell Collars:

https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-oso-barbell-collars-2-0

Cost: $49.50(The primary reason for using barbell collars is safety. Without them, the weight plates on the barbell could move or come off during a lift, causing serious injury or equipment damage)

*I might be able to find less expensive ones on Facebook market*

Bench:

https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-adjustable-bench-3-0

Cost: $595.00 (One of the primary benefits of adjustable benches is providing back support. This alleviates the pressure on your back when doing seated exercises, such as bicep curls and shoulder presses, encouraging you to lift heavier weights.)

Rubber Mats:

Cost: $56.99 (Protects the floors and carpets from the damaging effects of heavy exercise equipment and debris from mechanical parts)

*After taking floor measurement, we would need approximately 5-6 mats. Nearest tractor supply store is in Poolesville Maryland*

Weighted Plates:

Cost: They're actually on sale! (Gotta love a sale!)

set of 10lbs plates: $27.98 per plate

set of 25lbs plates: $52.98 per plate

set of 45lbs plates: $87.98 per plate

*I might be able to find less expensive ones on Facebook market*

I urge the department to take into consideration the long-term benefits and positive impact that a gym facility would have on our officers, even though there is a temporary solution in place for supplying the gym with weights. This may even appeal to the administrators if they wish to work out.Let us make an investment in the health and wellness of our hardworking law enforcement personnel by supplying them with the resources they need to attain and maintain the highest possible level of physical and mental fitness.
