Hello Professor and classmates,

We learned this week that there are many factors that can influence math success or contribute to difficulties. These factors include teacher preparation and knowledge or lack of knowledge and understanding in math, poor school curriculum and materials for math instruction, and students' characteristics that influence their understanding and retention of math (Vaughn, & Bos, 2019, p. 353).

Teachers who are able to recognize the prerequisite skills for the concepts they are teaching and identify key components that their students should know lead to effective math instruction and ensures students can learn problem-solving strategies properly (Vaughn, & Bos, 2019).

Next, teachers ensuring their schools have a well-conceptualized math curriculum with all of the materials and support resources needed for them and their student's needs also ensures students are likely to develop successful problem-solving strategies (Vaughn, & Bos, 2019).
