I would like you to do a Network Diagram AON for your project.
You will have to think about the sequencing of the tasks in your WBS and decide how the order that they will be done. I have posted a sample diagram to serve as an additional teaching model.
Additional Notes:
Remember that the tasks in the boxes are the ones at the lowest level of your WBS
Make sure that you include the task WBS element ID and description in each box. You can
abbreviate the description if you want just make sure that I can get the idea of what the
task is
It is typical to start on the left side of the page with a box labeled Project start from which
activity arrows flow to the right.
It is typical to end on the right side of the page with a box labeled Project End from which
all activity arrows return to
Include the nd WBS level task descriptions one up from the lowest level on the chart near
their lowest level tasks to provide a visual indication of the work group.
You absolutely must have every task from your WBS on the network chart you should
not assume that some tasks are assumed to be on the chart. On large projects, you will not
be available to explain assumed tasks to a large project team.
Remember from M Lecture on the WBSFor EM Project Control class, assume that
planning and executing Project Management tasks are not part of the project, and do NOT
include these tasks in your WBS Network Chart or Project Schedule.
Remember that one of the most important things that can be shown on the Network
Chart is "parallelism" of tasks. This means that if two tasks or strings of tasks can
start at the same time, they should be shown that way on the Network Chart lined up
vertically This will be helpful when you develop the schedule for your project, and
have to show the relationship between the startend of one task and the startend of
another task.
I would like you to do your Network Diagram using either Microsoft Excel or Visio. I specifically do NOT
want you to use Mic. Project Network Chart function.
In "Course Material", I have posted the Sample Network Teaching Aid". Hope this helps you
see what I am looking for in a network chart.
Some things to note on the sample:
The WBS associated with this had levels: Level the highest is the project; Level next
level down are task groups, and Level lowest are the tasks. Notice that there are task boxes
on the network chart for the WBS level tasks. The Level descriptions are near enough to
their subordinate tasks so you can see the relationship.
Notice that in general, The tasks start in the upper left and work their way to the
right.
Notice the vertical alignment associated with parallel tasks or strings of parallel tasks. Do your best to align the tasks as you need to I am teaching a concept, and will not deduct points
if your alignment is not perfect.
This is the WBS:
