Kenny, Should all this technology make it easier to deter and stop crime? Because in many cities
Question:
Kenny,
Should all this technology make it easier to deter and stop crime? Because in many cities and worldwide it does not.
I am not sure what to answer for that. This is my original post:
My topic for this discussion is Digital Privacy, which consists of information from individuals, online activities such as social media and networking, and connections made. The problem comes in jeopardizing privacy within an electronic environment.
What is the issue?
The problem describes the relationship between privacy and security, mainly regarding increased surveillance of one's activities or data collection. For increased security to occur, especially globally, with issues such as terrorism and cyberattacks, it becomes necessary to sacrifice some privacy.
What are the pros and cons of the issue?
Pros:
Enhanced security measures from increased surveillance and data gathering may help detect, identify, and prevent security threats.
Law enforcement capabilities: Many criminal activities can be done more efficiently through investigations.
Cons:
Privacy infringement: Mass data collection and surveillance practices could violate citizens' privacy rights by creating fear that states will overtake their boundaries. The article suggests mass data collection does not necessarily contribute to higher intelligence agencies (Feher 2021). This has been the case in recent terrorist attacks.
Why is the issue important?
It is a vital concern as it brings us back to the balance between privacy and security since we are becoming more dependent daily. Still, it is debatable whether citizens enjoy their rights to the fullest extent possible and what governmental action influences efficiency and security (Feher 2021). This doubts the premise that one is always secure in trade-offs for privacy.
How will it impact your life?
This is a life-threatening issue because it influences policies and practices about gathering information about an individual's knowledge. Also, knowing that privacy and security are interconnected helps people deal with digital space more smartly. They can demand moderate data policy legislation and talk with intelligence about this issue as one of the ways is to balance it as a whole.
