About paper:
In this paper, the author proposed an OpenFlow based scalable routing strategy for modular data center network for which a hybrid routing strategy is used. Traffic is increasing rapidly in data center network due to the increase in usage of cloud computing application. Most of the application needs all-to-all communication which increases the intra-DCN traffic and causes congestion in the network. The proposed model minimizes the traffic and thereby achieving flexibility and scalability in data center routing.
In this model, the author used a mix of virtual MAC based L2 and L3 addressing. Since, modular Virtual MAC is used, it minimizes the number of forwarding entries and also enables higher inter-segment routing. Virtual MAC also enables all-to-all communication among the Data Center Network hosts with ease. With the growing size of Data Center Network, the centralised control of OpenFlow becomes bottle as the traffic volume increases. This model mitigates this issues.
