SCENARIO

You work for Wallingford College as the College Administrator for the past year. Your

boss, Dr. Bobby Brown, is the President of the Wallingford

College. His schedule is full

of meetings and gets you to do some work as he attends boring college meetings all

day.

During his break from his meeting with the deans of the School, he calls you to meet

him in the board room. Here is the conversation:

wn

says, Thank you for coming we have only five minutes to chat before I get to my

meeting with the Board of Directors.

You say, Good. What do you want me to do?

Brown

says, I need you draft a professional business email to faculty and staff of

the

college. This email will come

from you and you will send it. It is about our new

Standards of Student Conduct Policy.

You reply, Ok. Whats new?

Brown

says, We updated the policy with new information and details. This new policy

does not include Violen

ce Prevention and Response and Sexual violence and

Misconduct prevention and Response as these two will have their own policies. Dr. Mike

Wheeler

is currently writing them up this week. Also, this policy only applies to all

college employees, faculty.........and

Board member and students too.

You say, Okay. What...

Brown

interrupts and says, Dont forget to describe bullying and harassment in your

email. You can say that it is a form of unwelcome verbal and physical behavior that

causes discomfort, offence or i

nsecurity. Please provide 4 examples of bullying and

harassment. Okay? Jim Hopper from the Counselling department has suggested that

we give clear examples so the employee will understand better and can relate to the

examples.

You say, What is not considered bullying or harassment?

Brown

says, When a person respectfully engage in honest difference of opinion is

good. You must say this as Will Byers

from the Engineering department will mention

this.

You say, Good. I will also mention 4 examples of wha

t a respectful college environment

is. I can give characteristics of a Respectful College Environment in my examples. Is

this good?

Brown

says, Good idea. Also, if an employee faces bullying or harassment, the

employee needs to file a written complaint.

The complaint goes to the Dean who will

decide whether this policy has been violated. If the Dean deems it to be valid, there will

be an investigation to commence immediately. Before I forget, the complainant has

three months of the date of the conduct gi

ving rise to the complaint.

You say, Anything else?

Brown

says, Let me see it before you send it out to staff and faculty. I have a break in

my Board of directors meeting in two hours. See me then.

You say, Perfect. I will work on it.
