PERFORMAMCE TASK Hypothesis Testing GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Taking the role of a data scientist, formulate a hypothesis based on an identified market opportunity. A market opportunity is a newly identified need that a company can address by offering a new product or developing/expanding its existing products/services/business model. For instance, many local governments prohibit food establishments the use of Styrofoam food containers to minimize environmental pollution. As such, a business proponent introduced a biodegradable food container since companies will probably look for an alternative to Styrofoam. Another type of opportunity involves pivoting the business model to take advantage of changes in the business environment. Many businesses have had to rethink their products and services in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure continued business growth (Benham, 2017). More examples are provided under the performance task requirements. Mote that this performance task DOES NOT require a tangible output or prototype. For students who are not part of a feasibility study group or do not have a former thesis or study related to this, you may start by identifying a market need. Think about the following guide questions: o What are the prevalent problems in society that are still unresolved? Could it be resolved by offering a new product or service? o What are the current market trends? Are more people relying on social media and logistical services to acquire goods and services? With these thoughts in mind, you may now formulate a hypothesis. Going back to the food container example above, a hypothesis would be \"businesses have no option but to purchase the new biodegradable food containers since they have to abide by local regulations.\" The formulated hypothesis will then be tested by conducting a market survey in the succeeding performance tasks of this course. If the results of the survey reveal that most businesses prefer other types of food containers, such as those made from reusable plastics or paper materials, we can conclude that the hypothesis was null or void. Mote that this performance task tests how you apply the concepts of data science and does not care whether your hypothesis is later on warranted as null or void. As such, the honesty and integrity of collected data are expected from everyone. At the end of this course, you will apply the concepts/tools of data science to clean, analyze, and present the data that you collected in the form of a systematized infographic.
