Difficulty remembering faces and corresponding names is a hallmark of cognitive aging. Furthermore, forgetting people's names is a common memory complaint among older adults and one that is consistent with past research showing age-related declines in memory for face-name associations. In the context of this line of research, incorrectly recalling someone's name is termed a 'person naming error'. Researchers have developed a new training program designed to teach older adults how to form strong associations between a face and a name, so that they are more likely to recall that face-name association in the future. Eight older adult participants completed a face-name association task prior to participating in the training program, and then again after completing the training program. The number of person naming errors made during the face-name association task (i.e., assigning the wrong name to a face) were recorded and comprises the data. The researchers want to know if the number of person naming errors changed following the new training program.
