Please help me respond to these 2 peers discussion posts I need help with both responses.

Hello Professor and class,

There aren't many opportunities that a lateral role can take place. I had one opportunity where I had to help create a schedule to help with the flow of business. The team that I am on, we all are assigned certain job duties but sometimes it is hard to finish because we get busy having to do other tasks. I presented a schedule that each one of us would not answer the phone for an hour at different times of the day. This would present the opportunity to be able to focus on certain tasks so that we can get all our work done by the end of the day. I took the initiative to do schedule because we would get emails on why certain job functions were not complete and our manager wasn't listening to the concerns, we had to get it done. I did not want to step on her toes and make her feel like I was taking over but something needed to be done so that we could feel accomplished every day.

To get the support that I need, I would continue to build relationships, be adaptable and open minded, and leverage my expertise. These three combinations would show that I am trying to build trust and a connection by getting to know my team and how we can work together to reach a common goal. It will show that I am willing to work through any changes that are presented but also give solutions based on knowledge and experience.

Hello All,

Within my current role I often have to get support for various initiatives, there are times when these situations involve areas where I may not have management authority. However, I seek out the support of the management of the teams that I need the support from. Discussing the initiatives with peers, team members and upper management provides me with not only the exposure for the initiatives as well as the collaboration of others. I have had success and failure while invoking lateral leadership.

During a particular initiative that I had spent several months developing I engaged lateral leadership, within the role I had there were various individuals who had trouble with the title or position I had and wanted to meet each process with opposition. I was able to approach these individuals through lateral leadership and ultimately earned their trust because they were able to see that they could trust me and support the imitative for the great success of the company despite their dislike of my role.

I have realized over the 16 years in my role that it doesn't matter what your fancy title may be, the importance lies in your ability to be leader, a team member and your level of integrity. I am a strong believer of leading by example.
