Eyewitness testimonies are important to arguments because frankly, people like to read about people. It adds pathos, or emotional persuasion. For example, heres 30 second read PSA about a little girl who was killed by a distracted driver. The penalty was not much more than a slap on the wrist (a $50 ticket) and then, 10 years later, the distracted driver became a school bus driver and struck again. Real people and their experiences serve as evidence in arguments. It is best to find people whose lived experiences speak to the situation, not just a random and convenient roommate who has an opinion on your research question, but no lived experience. You decide. Five minute sprint. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Imagine you are telling a friend the eyewitnesss story and how it supports your argument. Write as fast as you can. If you want to quote the witness, be sure to capture it in quotes and use signal phrases to differentiate your summary--and what you think about it--from their words. Go!
