1 Classmate Question: I think we do have a moral obligation to promote social justice. However, I think if you asked me this a decade ago, my answer would have been different. Now that I'm a parent, I feel a parental obligation to model a consciousness of the social justice issues that our society faces today to my children so that they can be aware of the world they are growing up in and the difficulties they may face.

"Being an active advocate of social equality and justice takes a conscious effort." I think the key word here is "conscious". In order to "actively" advocate for social equality, you need to be conscious, that is, aware of the inequality that exists in our society today. If we want people to be motivated to reconsider what is happening to BIPOC and LGBTQ members of our communities then we need to make them aware of the discrimination they currently face. I think the first step towards this should be starting with our own self-reflection of what our position in society is and how we either are discriminated against or have benefited from the way things currently are (white privilege). Once we are aware of how discrimination exists in our own lives we can make changes in our own behaviors accordingly. I feel that this will create a ripple effect to our spouses/partners/children/neighbors/communities. I think systemic change is also required in order for people to truly understand the discrimination that exists because until things are truly equal, it is difficult to see the subtle but cumulative discrimination and disadvantage BIPOC and LGBTQ+ members of our society suffer.

2. Classmate Question: Promoting social equality and justice is our obligation. We should not only show but we should be good people every day to everyone. By creating hate towards anyone or anything, we build stigmas and discriminate against what should not be done. We demand good for us, and at the same time, we harm or create space for hurting others. The subject of people of color bothers me more every day. It bothers me that we are creating more issues about the subject by reminding the world that you are worst if your skin has a color. But how about white, is it that color too? What is the difference? We must stop looking at each other by our skin color. I am white, well not precisely, pinkish, some reddish after sunburn, so what? I am the same as others. Yes, we may point out history, but I was a victim of discrimination for other reasons than the skin, and I know how it feels. I think about the same when it comes to LGBTQ members. We all are equal, and it doesnt matter who we love; we are who we are; we should all respect each other and live as united humans. Sometimes I feel like societies fight against themselves, show their existence, and look for acceptance when they should accept themselves first. This weeks article is an excellent example of how someone who received so much is giving back. We should be taking samples and doing the same by respecting each other, helping, and sharing. But sharing from our own will, not to be forced. By showing how much good you get back when you share from your heart. We dont need money to promote social equality, not discriminate, do not judge but support each other.

3. Classmate Question: Large corporations take advantage of the lack of proper regulations in third-world countries. These cooperations can make their products at a lower price because labor laws are not strict. They are also able to dump toxic waste and not worry about the repercussions from the government. Working conditions by the company are also not regulated because it does not have to be, which cuts back on their cost as well. These factors, bribery, tax evasions, human rights violations, are also violated because companies simply can due to the lack of regulations and corruption (Friedrichs, D. O. 2009, pg 62).

Combating this type of crime is tricky due to the bribery involved. International laws could make sure companies aren't exploiting countries, but the problem with this, not all governments would agree. If they were to agree, there would be those who will accept money to "look the other way". Punishment in the US needs to be harsh for those caught committing corporate crime, even if those crimes are not happening on US soil.
