Question 4 (Total 20 marks)
The recent Hong Kong Universal Community Testing Programme (UCTP) aimed to better gauge the COVID-19 infection situation in Hong Kong was conducted during September 1 to 14, 2020
There are three main processes involved in the testing.
1. A participant firstly enters the testing centre and takes a body-temperature measurement and then cleans hands with alcohol disinfectant gel.
2. Then there needs a registration of those having pre-appointment booking as well as some occasional walk-in citizens.
3. Finally the actual testing to collect the sample at the nose and throat through a combined nasal and throat swab.
The processing times for the various processes described above are:
- 0.25 min for temperature measuring and hand cleaning
- 1 min each for registration of those having pre-appointment, and 5 minutes for those walk- in participants
- 4 minutes for the nasal and throat sample taking
At a particular testing centre in Tin Shui Wai on the first day, i.e. Sep 1, all participants had pre-appointment. There was one temperature measuring station, two registration booths, and ten teams of sample collecting specialists. The participant arrival rate was 120 persons per hour.
