Agile and Six Sigma both promote a culture of continuous improvement although they apply it in different contexts. There are several differences depending on the purpose of the methodology. Agile and Waterfall are more flexible and adaptable approaches, while Six Sigma is focused on process improvement and quality control (Westland, 2017). Six Sigma relies on statistical tools and methodologies. Agile and Waterfall place emphasis on people, interactions, and working software. It is also helpful to understand that both Agile and Waterfall are project management frameworks, while Six Sigma is more of a process improvement methodology (Portny, 2017). The choice of methodology an organization chooses to implement should be based on the nature of the project or problem.
