When he returned home, his mother scolded him for misbehaving in school and was angry because she now had to buy a new school uniform for Kok Meng. Kok Meng angrily replied that everything that happened in school was his mother's fault because they were poor. All his friends had new clothes and toys for Chinese New Year while he had nothing. He blamed his mother for not working hard enough to earn more money. His mother told him that it was not easy to earn money and asked him to follow her to work. The next day, Kok Meng and his mother went to the rubber plantation. Soon, he realised how hard his mother worked. She had to wake up early to tap rubber and the plantation was dirty and hot, with many mosquitoes and other insects. But his mother had never complained about her difficult life. At the end of the day, Kok Meng said, Mother.... I am sorry," and said he would help her tap rubber.
