Q2. After working for five years as a supply chain executive in a multinational company, Saleem Robert joined a fast-growing Pakistani company as Assistant Manager in its Supply Chain department. Soon after joining the new company, Saleem realized that his technical expertise and professionalism were far superior than anybody else there. He told to himself that that was the difference in a multinational and a national company. He didnt like the work environment much but continued to work hard utilizing all his knowledge and experience, as the pay was much higher than his previous job and he was happy for that. Initially, everyone, including his boss, appreciated his knowledge and his professional way of handling suppliers and material. He used to tell them that everyone in multinational companies (MNCs) learnt all those things through their extensive training program, and that unlike sethia organziations, merit and professionalism were the mainstay of MNCs. He regularly evaluated the work done by other colleagues, which was not his job, and told them better ways of doing things. He kept on emphasizing to them that they should improve their technical skills and become more professional. Apparently, his colleagues got impressed but also considered him an arrogant person.
Saleem started feeling quite stressful after a few months due to several factors. He realized that his boss has been burdening him too much with extra work assignments. His boss used to assign him some extensive analytical work late in the afternoon or just before the office closing time which kept him busy in the office till late evening. Due to the burden of work, he missed quite a few deadlines and for that he had been ridiculed in front of his colleagues. He found that his invalidation and criticism became a norm.
By the year end, Saleem was quite happy to see that the supply chain management had been done quite well throughout the year and that the relationships with all the suppliers were good. He was expecting good increment, but got a poor one. He was under severe stress due to his antagonistic boss and colleagues and didnt know what to do.
