TECHNICAL PAPER

The standard format for design and performance specifications includes sixteen divisions, according to the Construction Specification Institute (CSI). Division fifteen (15) is where the mechanical and plumbing systems for each specific project are contained; division sixteen (16) contains the electrical systems specifications. Chapter 35 of the course text refers to Schedules and Specifications used in construction projects.

The Technical Paper for this course is based on the divisions 15 and 16 of construction project specifications. A two three page (use more if needed) technical paper is to be prepared by each student using the following guidelines:

  1. Select a construction project that your present company has already worked on, or research a project using the library resources indicated under Library Assignment Guidelines, or simply borrow a set of specifications from someone whom you may know that works for a contractor, architect, engineer, or city building department.
  2. Prepare a 2 3 page technical paper that includes the following information:

a. Name of the project

b. Name of the Architect/Engineering Firm which performed the design.

c. List the components of Divisions 15 and 16

d. Identify and list the Work Packages contained in Divisions 15 and 16 (you may have to look up the definition of Work Package).

  1. Look at two additional references (beyond the text book) about Construction Specifications, identify them as references and cite each according to the APA style. FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES PRESENTED UNDER LIBRARY ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES.
  2. Submit your Technical Paper by the Wednesday of week 4.
