The five Ps of strategy Henry Mintzberg offers five different conceptions about the nature of strategy. Mintzberg believes that, as a general rule, strategy is defined in one way, but it is implicitly used in different ways. It is not enough to define a strategy as a plan. Mintzberg claims that what a definition of a strategy should include is the result. As stated before, he argues that a strategy may be seen as the pattern of a series of acts. According to this definition, strategy means consistency in behaviour, intended or not. In the case of certain companies, there is less chance of implementing strategies if the intention is missing. It is only human nature to demand definitions for each concept. The term strategy has been used in multiple ways. However, by tradition, it has been defined in only one way. The implicit recognition of varied definitions can help us to get a better understanding of this difficult field.
