Sexual intelligence consists of four components to help you understand yourself better. The components are self-understanding, interpersonal sexual skills, accurate scientific knowledge, and consideration of the cultural and political contexts.

The first concept, self-understanding is learning more about yourself as a sexual being. This is where personal attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors can have an impact on a person and their understanding of sex. The second concept, interpersonal sexual skills is where an individual is openly able to talk about sexuality and sexual health. An individual would be assertive and responsive about their desires and limits of sexuality on a personal level. The skills help one to decide how they are going to behave based on their values. Thirdly, accurate scientific knowledge is multi-faceted. This is where one has an understanding and the facts of what their bodu goes through during sexual arousal, how to enhance the pleasure being received, how to best protect oneself from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and identifying the factors to creating long-term relationships. Lastly, is the consideration of the cultural and political contexts. This component addresses cultural norms along with political and economic factors. Cultural norms, occurring in friend groups, families, and communities are influential on our how we perceive our pleasure. Ones attitude and behavior on sex can be shaped by the cultural norms. Political and Economic factors address the context of sexual behavior on the community. For example, will you let your child attend the school-based sex education class? The debate on contraception and abortion is a factor and regulations of sex work.

At this time, I can agree with this definition of sexual intelligence because it is addressing self, relationships with others, the facts and the world in which one lives. I am very interested in studying and to see if my thoughts align with my current positions. There is nothing else that I would add to the concept of sexual intelligence.
