Traditional math instruction is based on direct instruction where students are shown one standard method of performing a task (Langen, 2023). Other ways of teaching math often provide the problem and allow the students to figure it out using different ways. In early childhood I think there is a time for traditional instruction as well as other newer math strategies. Because math is a new concept for most early childhood students they need us to provide direct instruction to start out and begin understanding math. Then, we can incorporate other types of math instruction that require different thinking after they have some background knowledge
