Objective

To practice incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility $($CSR$)$ objectives into project planning, focusing on stakeholder impacts and ethical considerations.

Divide the class into small groups, each assigned one of the project scenarios below.

Here are five diverse project scenarios that can be used for your CSR integration workshop:

Urban Green Space Development: A construction company is tasked with developing a new urban park in a densely populated city. The project includes landscaping, playground construction, and community spaces. CSR objectives could focus on environmental sustainability, local community engagement, and promoting health and wellness.

Software Development for Education: A tech company is developing an educational platform aimed at underserved communities. The project involves creating software that provides accessible learning resources. CSR objectives could include enhancing educational equality, protecting user data privacy, and promoting digital literacy.

Retail Chain Expansion: A retail company plans to open several new stores in different regions. The project involves site selection, building construction, and local hiring. CSR objectives might focus on ethical sourcing, economic impact on local communities, and implementing energy$-$efficient technologies.

Pharmaceutical Access Program: A healthcare company is launching a program to distribute affordable medications in developing countries. The project includes logistics planning, partnerships with local healthcare providers, and community education. CSR objectives could be centered around improving healthcare access, ethical marketing practices, and community health education.

Sustainable Tourism Initiative: A travel agency is developing a new line of eco$-$friendly tour packages. The project involves partnering with sustainable accommodations, creating environmentally conscious itineraries, and promoting cultural preservation. CSR objectives might include minimizing ecological footprints, supporting local economies, and preserving cultural heritage.

Each group begins by selecting CSR objectives relevant to their learning activity, focusing on environmental sustainability or community engagement. They then conduct a thorough stakeholder analysis to understand who is affected by the project and how the integration of these CSR objectives impacts these stakeholders, addressing both direct and indirect effects. With this foundation, the groups integrate the CSR objectives into their project plans, detailing specific actions required, establishing timelines, and assigning responsibilities to ensure accountability. This planning should also include metrics for assessing the effectiveness of the CSR initiatives. Once completed, each group presents their CSR$-$integrated project plan to the class, highlighting their strategic approach to addressing CSR objectives and managing stakeholder impacts. The session concludes with a class discussion that allows for peer feedback and explores each group's challenges and solutions in incorporating CSR into their project plans. This dialogue helps refine the understanding and application of CSR in contexts of project management. Groups will present their work in week $4.$
