1. Use the data in the Excel file (#2 Data). These data are taken from a process in which a piece of wood is cut. The length of the boards has been measured over a long span of time, indicating a process mean of 100.10 centimeters and a standard deviation of .050 centimeters. However, the length of the pieces of wood must be precise. The lower specification limit is 99.78 centimeters, while the upper specification limit is 100.22 centimeters.

1. Discuss what it means conceptually for a process to be capable, and how this is different from a process being in control (do this part in the Word file).

2. Use the data above (also in Excel, #2 Data sheet) to determine if the process is in control. Calculate Cpk and comment on whether the process is capable or not. Please do the calculation in Excel.
