Your organization outsources the same day surgery accounts, but everything else is coded internally. The number of charts per coder varies greatly. The DNFB is climbing and you determine that you want to implement coding productivity standards to help reduce the DNFB. The following chart shows 3 different hospitals you are using for benchmarks.

1. Write a mission and vision statement for this project that satisfies all 5 criterion (see chapter 4)

2. Create a team of 5 people for this PI project and assign roles. Each of the 5 people should have the role of the person in the hospital (HIM Director, Coding Mgr, IT Systems analyst, etc) and the role in the team (see chapter 4). I suspect most will be from HIM. The team should include the position (HIM director, coding manager, etc). Read the beginning of the question again to know YOUR role/position!

3. You do notice that the benchmarks are not consistent with each hospital. Theorize at least 3 reasons why there is such a discrepancy in the productivity and explain each reason.

4. What will your benchmarks be? Describe the process to begin measuring.
