You are the project manager on a project to implement a mission-critical system for your company. As such, your work will be receiving attention and scrutiny from executives very high up in the company. Since the impact of the project will be felt by several business areas, you have requested personnel from each of those areas to assist in the requirements definition and system testing tasks. The managers of those business areas recognize the importance of your project and want to help, but due to tight staffing levels their response is to provide either part-time assistance or, reluctantly, none at all. How would you proceed? Make plans to do without the assistance? Insist on business participation? How could the project sponsor come into play in this situation?
