You have probably noticed that I did not include the following chapters in the course syllabus: Chapter 3--The Global Environment in HR I did not include these chapters because some of them pertain more specifically to people who may actually take on a job as an HR Manager or Director. Some also involve the more tedious tasks of HRM, and unless you are going to work directly in the HR department, it is unlikely that you will have to be concerned with the administration of some of these topics. Many of you will probably take on some kind of management position so I selected the chapters indicated on the syllabus because they provide a more general view of HR and also because as managers you may be asked to perform some of those HR functions. Though chapters 3, 8 and 13 also apply to general management. At the very least, all of you are or will be employees, and the chapters we are covering together will help you understand your rights as an employee. However, it is still important that we are exposed to the topics in the above chapters. For the project, prepare a 2 to 3 page research paper on the topic. Your research can consist of internet sources, academic database sources, and/or your own HR department.
