I stumbled on this compensation book while hunting for something for my HR class that didn’t make my brain go in circles. Honestly, before grabbing it (free, by the way, which was a sweet bonus), I was so lost on how companies decide actual pay rates and bonuses. Chapter 5, which deals with job evaluation methods, totally changed that. It walked me through ranking jobs and point systems in a way that just made heaps of sense—not hard to follow, kinda like hearing a friend explain stuff rather than trying to decode textbooks where people speak only in facts and jargon. That was my lightbulb moment because suddenly, things I'd heard about “job worth” starting to click. What’s even cooler? I recently helped a part-time job friend talk to their manager more confidently about their pay after comparing roles, thanks to ideas from this chapter. I think one small downside is that some parts got a bit detailed, which felt like a mini headache mid-study session, but all in all, it hooked me right back once I pushed thru. If you need a book that actually gets you through tricky topics without putting you to sleep, this one’s a great pick. Bottom line—definitely worth picking up if you're aiming to get your footing in compensation stuff, especially with the clear chapters like the job evaluation part.

Noticed immediately the tape was cut and someone just slapped extra tape over it, felt super sketch. Kind of annoying ‘cause you never know if the package got messed with or stuff fell out. At least the book inside looks unharmed, but still—secure your boxes better, please.

The Compensation, 12th Edition offers a good balance of theory and practice, which I've found quite beneficial. The authors do a commendable job of breaking down complex topics into digestible content. However, a bit more depth in some sections would have been appreciated. Arrived swiftly with my subscription discount, which was a pleasant bonus. Overall, it's a solid addition to any HR professional's library.

Got this free for my Flushing Metropolitan University class and honestly, it's been a smooth experience so far. it showed up super quick and wasn’t beat up or anything, which was great. started looking through some chapters and it doesn’t feel overwhelming, even the tougher topics seem more doable than i expected. it’s not like a boring wall of text—it’s actually kinda easy to get into. still haven’t read tons, but this is already helpful for class homework and makes some concepts clearer than what i saw in lectures. if you get it free, grab it for sure—no brainer!
