Question:
Read post and give Respond. To what extent are you in agreement about how the operations manager facilitates the success of the strategic relationship? Where do you differ? What additional evidence would you offer for your point of view?
The role of the operations manager has drastically changed. Ten years ago at my previous employer, the role of an operations manager was just to operate behind the scene. They dealt with all paper work, compliance, audits and much more (internal). Currently the new role of an operations manager in that same company is all the mention responsibility along with customer service, referrals, partnership with the sales department (external).
In the article "Establishing and Developing Strategic Relationships – the Role for Operations Managers," spoke of the “ Theme in the management of strategic relationship, second to apply those themes to understand how exemplary organizations established and develop strategic relationship and third to determine the role of operations manager” there are seven themes of establishing a strategic relationship. However, two particular themes stood out for me; namely, partner selection and nature of the contract. When a business selects a partner that syncs with them, the possibilities are endless. Synergy has the ability to produce greater than imagine. Therefore, partner selection can make or break the idea of a future long term strategic relationship.
The nature the contract “should support the spirit of the relationship not get in the way” Johnston, Robert; Stoughton, Roy To me that is very important, because choosing the right partner comes with a connection. It is important to connect for all the right reasons; therefore you can have long-term strategic relationships. The most critical aspect of the role of an Operations Manager is the ability to cross function. By knowing the internals and externals of a company’s relationship, this can sustain long-term- growth.
