1) For your dishwashing machine, generate a functional flow block diagram of the overall functions for the appliance (just like the top level in the diagram below).

2) Select one of the overall functions and decompose it into child functions (just like the second level in the diagram below).

3) Select one of the decomposed functions and decompose yet again (just like the third level in the diagram below), ultimately showing 3 layers of the functional domain for your chosen appliance.
