Whether discussing new ideas or providing feedback on others' suggestions, respect should always be accompanied by constructive criticism. This fosters an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts, free from the fear of ridicule.
My second ground rule would be to ensure one conversation at a time. Many times, in a group setting, people tend to spark a conversation on their own about anything, consciously and unconsciously, and I believe it is rude to the person speaking and those listening. Having multiple conversations is distracting and can cause valuable information to be missed or repeated, wasting time.
Not establishing ground rules can cause conflict amongst your team, and you should resolve and address it as swiftly as possible. At the start of the project, I would give everyone a notepad (journal) to jot down their ideas and get them out of their heads. Doing so allows room for new ideas and ensures that information can be persevered. To resolve conflict, I prioritize all tasks so we are all on the same page. I would not want someone to assume that the decor on the cake is more important than making the cake. Everyone must know their role and responsibility and understand what they should follow.
