Assignment Specifics: You work as an administrator in a middle school in a low-income neighborhood. The school district has recently cut the school's budget for the arts, but your school would like to offer an after-school arts enrichment program for its students. Look online for an appropriate agency or foundation interested in funding education programs. Write a letter of inquiry to this agency or foundation, explaining the details of the program - for example, your school's need for $15,000 for equipment, and supplies, the community the program would serve, the number of students who will use the program, and the ultimate objective of the program. (You do not need to use $15,000, this is simply an example.) Most grants will not provide funds for teachers or on-going purchases. Foundations will be most likely to support capital investments and often with a matching fund criteria. To develop the details for your proposal, you can either research existing after-school art programs or use your imagination to create realistic details. Assignment Parameters: Write an appropriate length letter of inquiry to the foundation or agency that you have identified. This must be a real foundation. (Provide a "live" link to the foundation or agency) Be sure to include all of the appropriate details regarding your request. You will want to reference attached support material, but you do not need to include the supporting documentation. For example, you may want to reference a detailed income/expense projection that shows how the program is sustainable. You do not need to include the projection, but you will want to make a reference to it. Remember, most foundations will want to see how you will sustain the program as well as your long-term funding plan. This is a final draft and should be ready to be mailed. Use correct business letter formatting. Refer to Appendix A, Figure A.6 for the appropriate Block-Style Letter formatting. You will want to include a letterhead, inside address, etc. This is not an email, but is a formal business letter.
