Classmate 1 Question: Groupthink is defined as the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility. The phenomenon of groupthink is psychological in which the desire for harmony or conformity in a group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision. I think groupthink can be a problem in today's law enforcement because I think as newer generations newer generations enter law enforcement they would want to have a say. Times are forever changing and even though it can be hard to try to accommodate to everyone's opinions and ideas being able to listen to what everyone has to say and allowing people to have voice can encourage creative ideas and can solve solutions. Working together to get the job is much better than one person having that responsibility.

Classmate 2 Question: The phenomenon of groupthink is when a group of members make a decision without considering other alternatives. The etext provides the example when police agencies and departments are attempting to gather more information in reference to a terroristic situation, while gathering information, the agency should also reexamine their technology and equipment when gathering that information. Therefore, if changes are needed to be made, they can than obtain more details as compared to the past. There are eight symptoms to groupthink; group invulnerability, collective rationalization, total faith in the group's morality, stereotyped views of outsiders as being weak, pressure on dissenters within the group, self-censorship, illusion of unanimity and self-appointed "mind-guards" (Gaines & Worrall, 2011). This definitely can be a problem if not handled correctly. If the administration does not see that the agency is not looking at alternative options which could ensure more safety, alter the way budgets are used, and more, than the department is slowly putting themselves at risk.

Classmate 3 Question: Sometimes expressing one's one opinion can be difficult, especially when it goes against more experienced officers. Do you feel that this may have played a part in the murder of George Floyd?"
