Explain what you think art is, why it is important, what purpose art plays personally and socially, and the roles of artists and perceivers in determining these matters. Compare and contrast your theory of art with the theories put forth by at least two (2) of the philosophers/theorists we have studied in this course. You must explain the theories/concepts fully and use your course readings to help you do so. Discuss how your theory is similar/different than theirs, how your theory evolved from their thinking, and anticipate how these theorists would agree or disagree with your theory and how you might defend your position against their criticisms (if they would have any).

While explaining your theory of art and how it may be supported or refuted by the theories of others, include the work of at least one artist and discuss at least two of their works of art in relation to your theory. You may use the work of an artist we looked at in class or you may find one on your own.
