Wrong Assignment
The document you submitted was not the assignment. Please look at the instructions again and contact me with any questions. You can resubmit the correct document to the same dropbox.
Document Type
The assignment called for a memo because this is an internal document that stays within the company. You used the letter format or some of the elements for a letter such as a salutation or closing. Review the Unit sample memos, resource material, and video to better understand how to format a memo.
Date
The date at the top needs to reflect the date you sent the memo. Dates should be formatted American business style: Month Day, Year August
Alignment
In this course, the header information needs to be aligned. The alignment of the header information is ragged. Look at the sample memos in the handbook, textbook, and online. Notice the alignment of the specific information after the TOFROMSUBJECT tags. Use the tab key to get these to line up so that you have two columns. See the lesson in Unit about doing this in Word as well as the video about setting up a memo in Word.
Recipient & Title Information
This memo is addressed to the wrong person or does not contain the titles from the recipient nor the sender
Subject Line
The subject line must reflect what is in the memo and motivate the recipient to read the information. Subject lines should be longer than two or three words, yet should not be longer than the width of the page.
Title Case
Use title case for subject lines, headings, and job titles. This means all significant words are capitalized like a book title. See the lessons and video for specific details.
Spacing
The spacing is incorrect or inconsistent. Single space paragraphs with double spacing between each paragraph. The goal is to fit a memo on one page whenever possible. Using triple or quadruple spacing is unnecessary. Memos are concise and do not need to spread evenly over an entire page.
Paragraphs
Combine one sentence paragraphs with other paragraphs if possible.
Large paragraphs can often be broken into smaller paragraphs or be shortened by eliminating unneeded information. This helps the reader by either creating white space or shortening the message.
Introduction
Even short pieces of writing like memos need to have a sense of introduction that outlines the main point of the memo and what is in it The subject line does not stand in for an introductory paragraph.
Specific Details
Many of the case details and needed explanations are missing from this document. Use dates, proper nouns, costs, description, examples, explanations, statistics, quotes, etc. In order to be complete and clear, you need to include all necessary specifics. Information must be current and correct.
