Some statistics that were shared in the lecture/reading that caused me to pause for a moment to think about is when: The 2009 CT Health Disparities Report mentioned that "According to the CDC, Asians are most at risk for certain cancers, heart disease, stroke, unintentional injuries, and diabetes (CDC 2006a)" (page 56). Even though the Asian population in CT is not as high as other racial and ethnic minorities it is still important to know and understand how each are affected. Some factors that can be the cause, could be the language barriers and being uninsured. If an individual needs to speak to their doctor or is in the ER and no translator is around it will be difficult to find the cause of the pain or to efficiently help the patient. Another statistic is from the lecture slides stating that there is a shortage of adequate low-income housing. The homeless population is growing and having a shortage in low-income housing will lead to more people having to live in the cold or even outside. Moving forward I will use this information to help those who are in need, possibly by creating more areas for those who need a place to stay and not on the streets. Along with pop up medical checks, this is deficiently something that should be done more often. For example, a few doctors will go to a spot that can be used, couple times a week to check out those who need medical attention who are uninsured or can not go to a hospital or doctors offices.
