External factors are the key to the overhaul of traditional industries such as manufacturing, which is often impacted by the economy as well as politically, sustainability and technological changes. COVID19 is a perfect example of how each industry suffered, specifically manufacturing with supply shortage and demand increase. Covid19 disrupted the global supply chains which caused a shortage of materials and employees which caused manufacturing plants to shut down. Once production restarted, they had to catch up with the demand which caused organizations to use a more resilient supply chain strategy. With the disease widespread, organizations needed to change their person to person contact with led to innovating digital and automation within the manufacturing industry. Overall, external factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, sustainability, and technology are key in the overhaul of the manufacturing industry (David, 2020).
