QUESTION 1(COMPULSORY)
A continuous T-beam is shown in Figure 1 below, supports unfactored dead load of \(24\mathrm{kN}/\mathrm{m}\) from the slab load and finishes, and an imposed load of \(5\mathrm{kN}/\mathrm{m}\)(unfactored). Given the beam cross - section. Do the following.
1.1 Calculate the effective width of the flange.
1.2 Calculate the ultimate design load of the beam.
1.3 Calculate the moments and shear values at the critical sections in the case where the ultimate load covers the entire length of beam. Ignore moment redistribution.
1.4 Design the first internal support of the continuous beam for flexure.
1.5 Check the first internal support of the continuous beam for shear.
1.6 Check the near centre of end span of the continuous beam for deflection. (8)
Use this information to design the beam.
All the dimensions are in mm .
