SYSTEMS ANALYSIS & DESIGN - FINAL PROJECT Identify an information system that you might be familiar with. This can be where you work, or where a friend or family member works. You should have access to the users in order to be able to do the data gathering required to meet the project specifications identified in the rubric. You may choose to work alone or in groups of 2 or 3. No more than 3 per group. You can self-select from your discussion group members or post the bulletin board for someone to work with. GOAL Read Dont focus on the Hammer on the course homepage. Your focus should be on the tasks and activities the system performs, not the tools (i.e., AS/400 (Casinos) or Micros (restaurants)). The tools (hardware and software) enable users to perform the tasks, but they are not a system. DATA COLLECTION Interviews = should be top-down, from the general (managers) to the specific (hands-on users). You should minimally interview one manager and two users. Questionnaires = should be close-ended; these allow you to gather data from multiple users, say 10-20, that you would otherwise not have the opportunity to interview. Observations = first-hand look at how people interact with the information system. Secondary sources should be used as well. These include business documents (invoices, reports, job descriptions, corporate websites, and more. When using secondary sources, you will need to cite your sources within the paper and also include a reference page at the end. If you dont do so, you will lose points. The topics outlined below will be the main focus of your data gathering and research activities.
