Roles that state and local health department have in health care:

Public health such as healthcare monitoring and disease control; personal health services which include health insurance (Medicaid), access to mental health screening, public hospital and health department; environmental protection and occupational hazards guidelines and regulations for providers and staff in medical care.

Services provided by the state:

The state health department is responsible for assuring competent public health and personal care and in the workforce. The state works on the improvement of quality care for citizens by doing ongoing and systematic assessments.

State health departments also provide a broad range of services under the rubric of health resources. These include health planning; the regulation of health facilities and manpower; health professions development; the development and regulation of emergency medical services; and the collection, analysis, and publication of health statistics.

Services provided by local:

The local health department trains workforces on current changes on how to respond to the emerging areas, changes in disease, and technologies. Monitor outbreaks of any disease and developing responses when needs are. They focus on technical skills specific to their services and programs. Local public health works closely with community health care providers and trains them on how all health professionals should function to some degree as part of their community's system of public health. The local health departments also help create and maintain good conditions in communities which promotes healthier choices in areas such as lifestyle, diet, exercise, and not smoking. They lead efforts that prevent and reduce the effects of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cancer.

Floridas health department aims to protect residents and visitors of Florida. The health department is led by the state surgeon general who reports to the governor. The state and local health departments work together to resolve public health issues within the state.
