WEEK 11 ASSIGNMENT

CASE STUDY REVIEW

Nancy: Well, its the big day! Robert, the vice president for global security at Avon, has come to meet with Tony about his security protocol. Lets take a look at how their initial conversation went.

Robert: It is a pleasure getting to meet you in person, Tony. It looks like your retail store is in pretty good shape. Just so we are clear, this visit is intended to be consultative and supportive. I want to make sure your security needs are covered. At the end of my visit, we will meet again to review any critical findings.

Tony: Okay, that sounds like a plan. I think all of our bases are covered, but I am anxious to see what you think.

Robert: I am going to have a look around and will be back to see you.

Robert: So, Andy, youre the security manager right? Andy: Yes, thats correct. Robert: Id like to give you some time for you to talk with me about the security protocol at the store. I dont think we met last time I was here. So, I wanted to get to know you a bit better. How are things going? Have you experienced any problems? Andy: That's right sir, I was not employed here when you last visited. The security here at Avon is pretty tight. We have a closed-circuit television system that monitors the inside and outside of the store. We have a total of six cameras, but recently one of the cameras broke. It hasnt been fixed yet. I informed my manager of the issue, but it is still not fixed. It has been almost two months. The camera that is broken monitors the door at the back of the store. Robert: I see. Yes, that is a major concern. Is there anything else? Andy: Well, the sensor that sets off an alarm when someone tries to steal a high ticket item is also on the fritz. It has malfunctioned so many times, that the store associates ignore it completely. Im afraid if it is not fixed, more shoplifting could occur. Other than that, everything else runs smoothly. Robert: Thank you for sharing that information with me. I will see what I can do to remedy the situation.

After meeting with the security manager, Robert begins his security inspection. While inspecting doors, locks, cameras, and other technology that has been installed since his last visit, he spots a problem with the storeroom door. The lock is jammed and will not lock properly. This is problematic as the stores entire inventory is housed in the storeroom.
